Neptune’s 2000/x plans deliver multi-gigabit speeds, but they require specific network hardware and, in some cases, an NBN Network Termination Device (NTD) upgrade. This article explains how the upgrade process works, what to expect, and how to prepare before ordering.

NTD upgrade process

The upgrade process depends on your access technology.

FTTP (Fibre to the Premises)

FTTP services require a new-generation, multi-port NTD to support 2 Gbps speeds.

  • An NBN technician appointment is required

  • The technician will install and commission the upgraded NTD

  • Your service will initially be provisioned on a 1000/100 plan

  • Once the upgrade is complete, your selected 2000/x plan is applied automatically

Typical lead time: 2–3 weeks

HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial)

HFC upgrades are handled via a self-install kit.

  • A new HFC NTD is shipped to your service address

  • A technician appointment is usually not required

  • Instructions are included for self-installation

  • Your service will initially be provisioned on a 1000/100 plan

  • Your selected 2000/x plan is applied once the new NTD is installed

Typical lead time: 1–2 weeks

Four-port multi-gig NTD pricing and eligibility

You can choose to order a four-port, multi-gigabit NTD, which is capable of supporting multiple services on the same device.

A one-time $110 multi-port NTD charge applies when ordering this, unless one of the following conditions is met:

  • You select the 2000/500 plan, in which case the multi-port NTD is included at no extra cost, or

  • You already have two or more active services on an existing four-port NTD

If either condition applies, the NTD upgrade fee is automatically waived, and your NTD will be upgraded to the four-port variant.

Router (CPE) requirements

To use a 2000/x plan, your router must support:

  • A 2.5 Gbps (or higher) WAN port

Routers limited to 1 Gbps WAN ports cannot deliver multi-gigabit speeds, even after the NTD upgrade.

We recommend checking your router’s manufacturer specifications before ordering. If you’re unsure, Neptune can help confirm compatibility.

Trial availability

5-day trials are not available on 2000/x services.

This is due to the hardware upgrades and provisioning steps required to deliver multi-gigabit speeds.
