If you’re switching to Neptune Internet from another provider that uses PPPoE or VLAN settings (like iiNet or TPG), you'll need to configure your router to connect to our network. Neptune requires your router is configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) in order to assign it an IP addres and simplify your connection setup.

Step 1: Access Your Router's Configuration Page

To change your router’s settings, you’ll need to log into the router’s web interface.

1. Open a web browser on a device connected to your router (either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable).

2. Enter the router’s address in the browser’s address bar. This is commonly http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1. If unsure, check the router’s manual or look for the information on the back of the router.

3. Log in with the admin username and password. If you haven’t changed these, the default credentials are often admin/admin or admin/password. Again, check the router’s manual if needed.

Step 2: Switch from PPPoE to DHCP

1. Once logged in, navigate to the Internet or WAN settings section. The exact name may vary depending on the brand of your router.

2. Look for the Connection Type or WAN Protocol option.

3. If the current setting is PPPoE, change it to DHCP (sometimes labeled as Dynamic IP or Automatic Configuration).

4. Save your settings.

Example for a TP-Link Archer Router

If it's a new router, just choose Dynamic IP during the initial setup.

If it's an existing router, click Advanced -> Network -> Internet and choose Dynamic IP.

Step 3: Remove VLAN Settings (If Applicable)

Your previous ISP may have required that you configure VLAN settings in your router. With Neptune Internet, these settings aren’t necessary and will interfere with your connection. So if you had VLAN settings enabled, it’s important to disable them.

1. In your router’s WAN or Internet settings, look for a VLAN section or an option such as VLAN ID.

2. If a VLAN settings are enabled or a VLAN ID is set to a specific number, disable it or delete the VLAN tag altogether.

3. Save your settings.

Step 4: Restart Your Router

After changing the settings, restart your router to apply the new configuration properly.

1. Turn off the router for about 10-15 seconds.

2. Turn it back on and allow it to reboot.

Your router should now automatically connect to Neptune Internet using DHCP.

Step 5: Test Your Connection

Once your router has restarted, test your connection by opening a web browser and visiting any website. If you’re connected to the internet, you’re all set! If not, please double-check your settings to ensure that you’ve switched from PPPoE to DHCP and that no VLAN settings remain.

Additional Tips

  • If you’re unsure about any of the steps, check your router’s manual for guidance on accessing and changing these settings.

  • If your router doesn’t seem to be connecting after you’ve made the changes, try factory resetting the router and reapplying the DHCP settings from scratch

  • Remember that Neptune Internet uses DHCP and IPoE (IP over Ethernet), which is a plug-and-play technology. Once your router is set to DHCP, there’s usually no need for further configuration.
